Texas hold 'em Texas hold ‘em, which is a variation of poker, was born in Texas in the early 19th century. This game quickly gained popularity in the US until it reached the casino capital that is Las Vegas. At first, it was only offered in a single casino in Las Vegas, however, it came out of the outskirts of the gaming world by the 1970s and evolved into the most popular variation of poker.

When a round of Texas hold ‘em begins each player receives two cards that are placed face down, known as hole cards. After this there is a round of betting followed by three board cards, or flop cards, being turned over. After this round there is another round of betting and the fourth and fifth board cards being turned over, each turn is followed by a round of betting. After the final round of betting each player is required to turn over their cards. The player with the highest scoring final hand is the winner.

When looking at the odds for winning in Texas hold ‘em it is important to remember that it is determined by the specific hand you are dealt. However, the odds that you will not be dealt a pair or an ace are 87 to 1.
